Release Polysun 5.10 – Overview of new features

New features

  • Bookmark feature: favorite products in the Polysun catalogs can be marked as such with the star icon. This way, they are always displayed as first choice.
  • Easier quick start to simulation: the software automatically selects the last used variant.
  • The user wizard features a new design wizard for ground-source loops, improved access to weather data as well as a wide range of other features that make Polysun easier to use.

  • The PV design wizard was revised to display more and more reliable inverter layouts. The wizard was also made more stable and warning messages were revised.

New developments for Polysun Solar Thermal

  • Swimming pools are now taken into account for suggestions made by the wizard for optimal collector design. The software can now suggest the optimal design of systems including hot water, space heating and swimming pools.
  • Chinese collectors are now calculated based on aperture area.
  • The American collector model was integrated with a state-of-the-art correction factor that is applied when the collector operates at lower flow-rates than in tests.

New developments for Polysun Heat Pumps

  • A new design wizard assists the user in the optimal dimensioning of ground-source loop fields.
  • The distance between several boreholes can now be entered directly on the user interface.
  • Possibility to define the depth of each single soil layer.

Other improvements

  • Building models were revised to adjust them to Mediterranean climate conditions.
  • Measuring unit rectified for building load input.
  • In Polysun Solar Cooling, the wet recooler was revised.

New developments for Polysun solar thermal and heat pumps

  • The gross heat gain table for all Solar Key Mark certified flat-plate collectors shows heat gains at different fixed medium temperatures.
  • For the financial analysis, the feed-in tariff is now also available for solar thermal energy.
  • User manual: the “Controller“ chapter was revised, a new chapter 6, “Tips and Tricks to work with Designer“, was added; economic viability was updated (UK renewable heat incentive)

New developments for Polysun Photovoltaics

  • More suggestions for inverter setup in PV fields with a low number of modules
  • Only single, two or three-phase inverters are suggested according to PV field output. This feature can be switched on and off in the settings.
  • A new column for the galvanic separation in the model catalogue
  • Better default module temperatures in the wizard with American units
  • Improved Polysun PV reports: certain diagrams only appear when actually needed; for example, Etot was removed from all reports.
  • Photovoltaics Reactive Power: as a new feature, the power ratio calculation in the wizard also takes into account the reactive power. This enables to define the cos phi value. Reactive and apparent power are shown in both results and reports.

Other improvements

  • The Updater dialog box allows now to directly close Polysun and start the Updater in case an update is available. A new menu item (“Check for software updates“) was added to the menu “Options”.
  • The Online Maps feature now also works through a proxy server.
  • Many of the upper limits were increased to allow for the calculation of larger systems, i.e. the increase of the loop volume value allows larger swimming-pools to be calculated.

Polysun 5.8 Release – Overview of new features

New developments for all Polysun versions

  • Impeccable Polysun reports are provided in a variety of formats (PDF, Word, Power Point, Excel, HTML).
  • An ENEV report now provides results in a format that conforms to German standards.

New developments for Polysun Photovoltaics

  • A new shading editor allows users to account for row-to-row shading as well as shading caused by nearby objects in the easiest possible way.
  • The amount of electricity used for self-consumption can now be recorded as an annual value (sum of all counter readings) or as an annual profile.

New developments for Polysun Solar Thermal and Heat Pumps

  • Visualization of controller connections: both the location of sensors (in blue) and the controlled element (in red) are displayed.
  • The collector model for unglazed absorbers has been expanded so that energy may be also generated if the collector temperature is lower than the ambient temperature.
  • The concentrating collector model has been expanded and integrated with a number of collectors. Newly listed items include Solarbeam, a two-axis tracking parabolic collector manufactured by Solartron and NEP PolyTrough 1200, a parabolic trough collector.
